The Kentucky Derby has always been a great reason to throw a party. Every year on the first Saturday in May, at Derby Day celebrations throughout Louisville, Kentucky -- and around the country -- Bourbon-soused cocktails and the best of Southern cuisine are central to the celebrations. The collection of recipes below comes directly from the kitchen of David Danielson, the executive chef at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. All but the Woodford Reserve Bourbon Punch recipe are featured in Danielson's new Bourbon Country Cookbook, which he cowrote with Tim Laird, who is himself an authority on wines and spirits and host of two weekly television food shows produced in Kentucky, Secrets of Bluegrass Chefs and Secrets of Louisville Chefs. While these recipes are perfect for your Derby Day party, they also add a taste of the South to your dinner table or party spread any time of the year.
