Welcome to Eating In, my cook's diary of sorts. It's a collection of things I really enjoy, from new menus and new techniques to improvs and opinions.

This collection is about two of my favorite things. One is the unexpected places a recipe can take you. The other is weekend food -- or as I think of it, Sunday food. 

Sunday is my break-out day. We unplug. My husband and I take time to talk and leisurely cook whatever makes us hungry or curious, just for the fun of it. No clock is ticking. We might eat at 1 p.m. or sometime before bed. We invite friends to join in if we feel like it, or keep it a supper for two. This book is about those menus we pull together on those Sundays.

We eat all week on the things we make on Sundays. I call them work night encores and you'll often find them in this book at the end of the recipes. They're ways to quickly rework the leftover chicken or soup or beans into a dynamite Tuesday or Wednesday supper.

The way recipes keep giving is something that has kept me fascinated with cooking for a long time. Every recipe is like the fingers of your hand; it can take you in so many directions and open up so many possibilities. Each direction becomes a lesson in the power you gain when you know what's happening beyond that written recipe.
