  • Crusty Sausage-Filled Bread

From Invitation to Dinner: Elegant Entertaining and Delicious Dinners at Home, by Abigail Kirsch with David Nussbaum.

  • Fiesta Del Sol Cookies

Simplicity and lightness define these sunny little treats, which are easy to make and even easier to eat, especially with chilled, homemade lemonade or hot tea or coffee. They are inspired by the Easter Week Yoemem, or Yaqui, in "the House of the Sun."

  • Depths-of-Fall Butternut Squash Pie

You can be sure I was one of the first in line at the supermarket when peeled, ready-to-cook squash arrived.
