This week, we look into different holiday traditions and bring them to you. Von Diaz, the author of, Coconuts and Collards, sets the scene for the Puerto Rican Christmases from her youth, from what to expect from a parranda to a delicious traditional Christmas spread of pernil, pasteles, arroz con gandules, and of course, we can’t forget the coquito. Then, we move into holiday baking with Vallery Lomas as she walks us through the must-have dessert inspired by Louisiana, Paris, and New York-- her famous Pecan Candy Cheesecake. Vallery Lomas is the author of Life is What you Bake It. Thenthe poet and host of the poetry podcast The Slowdown Ada Limón joins us to talk about feeling connected with people through food, what we would typically find at her holiday table, and how she practices staying present. She is the author of The Carrying, and her forthcoming book is The Hurting Kind.
