Recipes and Stories by Alana Chernila

  • Sausage and Swiss Chard Strata

In this recipe adds Swiss chard, sausage and tender ricotta cheese to a classic bread pudding recipe. Make this the day ahead and pop it in the oven when you get home at day’s end.
  • Butternut Squash Pasta with Bacon and Sage Brown Butter

The browned butter and roasted vegetables make this special, but roasting everything in the oven at once makes it easy to prepare.
  • Popovers

I have one back-pocket recipe that can save any breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Popovers.
  • Stuffed Winter Squash

My favorite thing to do with a winter squash is to stuff it.
  • Veggie Burgers

Gould farm in Monterey, Massachusetts, is a farm like many others in some respects —there are acres of organic gardens along both sides of the narrow road and cows that greet you with their kind stares. Up the hill there are pigs and chickens, and there is a dairy where Cheddar is cultured and aged before traveling to stores all over this part of the state. Poke your head into any door or walk through the garden beds and you will find staff and volunteers hard at work.
