More than half of France's red wines come from the southern Languedoc- Roussillon region of the country, and, until about ten years ago, most were unremarkable. Advances in grape-growing and wine-making have changed that and today the region produces some stunningly low-priced reds that garner high ratings. Here are Pierre's favorites from the region:

  • Château la Voulte-Gasparets

  • Mas de Daumas-Gassac

  • Domaine de L'Hortus

  • Gilbert Alquier Faugeres

  • La Cuvée Mythique

  • Château de Jau
