New England Donuts
June 19, 1999
Jane has issued a battle cry! She and Michael finally ate a Krispy Kreme Donut and pronounced them "little grease balls!" They say for real donuts, you must go to New England - it’s fried dough territory. They love Phillip's Diner in Woodbury, Connecticut, and Allie's Donuts in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Phillip's donuts are the essence of simplicity - old-fashioned, yeasty, with a cakey interior - just perfect with a plain cup of black coffee. These donuts "beg to be dunked." The Sterns' favorite is the plain one dusted with cinnamon sugar. Allie's is a huge place offering 3 dozen different kinds of donuts. Expect a line at Allie's - there’s always a line, sometimes two!
