Whole-Bellied Fried Clams

Our dining duo Jane and Michael Stern just might have the last word on clams. They call the whole-bellied fried clams at Sea Swirl in Mystic, Connecticut, "debonair, briny, assertive, light, and luscious - not for sissies or nutritional prigs, but pure delight for clam cognoscenti." The onion rings are pretty fine, too. Sea Swirl looks like a defunct Dairy Queen and, indeed, it’s also a soft-serve ice-cream stand!
