Jane and Michael Stern rave about the impeccably fresh and lush seafood at San Francisco's Swan Oyster Depot. Included in the offerings at this fish market and restaurant combo - a favorite of legendary food writer M.F.K. Fisher - are succulent fresh oysters, Dungeness crab, and wonderful Boston-style chowder, all accompanied by a chunk of sourdough bread. There's not a lot of cooking going on here, but there's lots of fresh seafood. It's a popular place so expect to wait for a table.
