Jane and Michael say 'everything coming out of the kitchen looks better than the thing before' at Mr. Perkin's. It's soul food at its best and Michael thinks the turnip bottoms (mashed to a puree with a little butter and sugar) are 'better than any vegetable should be.' The Sterns especially like the cornbread that's fried on a griddle to order, fried green tomatoes, fried perch in cornmeal crust, and coconut cake or individual fried peach pies for dessert.
