Did you know Hawaiians eat more Spam per capita than anyone else in the country? We didn't either until the Sterns enlightened us to this important fact. When they long for authentic Hawaiian food but a trip to the islands isn't on their calendar, they know that Da Kine's Plate Lunches in San Diego is a good substitute. Michael loves the Spam and Rice, a huge mound of vinegary rice served with a slice of Spam wrapped in seaweed, not unlike a giant piece of sushi. Another favorite is the Kahlua Pig, barbecued pulled pork mixed with pickled cabbage. And a slice of the incredibly good mango cake is in order for dessert.
