On a recent swing through South Carolina, the Sterns discovered Dave's Carry-Out, a tiny fry shop that serves up what Jane claims is fried seafood so good it's like no other in the country.
Pork chops, chicken and the daily special share the fry basket with the spectacular local shrimp. They're so fresh they virtually snap when you bite into them, and the tempura-like coating is light and crispy.
The storefront is so small that it's mainly carry-out service. In fact, the two tables for indoor dining are usually taken by folks waiting for their carry-out orders. Dave's officially closes at midnight, but it's often unofficially open until nearly dawn.
